November 17, 2013

I want to live a simple life one day. I want a tiny house that runs primarily on solar, propane, generator, and firewood. I want a large vegetable garden and several kinds of fruit trees. I wound have a large storage shed to hold all my stuff so the little house wouldn't be cluttered. Getting the house built would be easy. The only problem I would have is finding a nice piece of land away from everyone. (Cannot have that in the Mississippi Delta because of all the crime.)

Have you all ever thought about downsizing and living a self sustainable life? I plan on doing this in the next couple of years. My plans were to do it in March of next year but not sure yet.
Would love to hear what you think and if you all thought about the same thing.

Backpacking Survival Part 4

Hiking boots are not always necessary for short hikes. A good pair of shoes is all you need if you plan on doing a hike under 5 miles. A true backpacker will wear hiking boots on every hike. I prefer a good pair of Nike or Reebok myself. If I were to go through hills, water, or rough terrain; I would want to wear boots. Weight is another factor to consider. A heavy pair of boots will slow you down and tire you out in no time. Dress comfortable and keep it lightweight.

Backpacking Survival Part 3

Never go on a backpacking trip alone on your first time. Always go with a group or an experienced backpacker. (Safety in numbers.)
Wal Mart has a lot of supplies in the hunting section. Amazon and Ebay have a lot as well. Dollar stores have a lot of small packages foods and supplies that are great for a back backs too. I get most of my supplies from Dollar Tree and Fred's.

Backpacking Survival Part 2

A backpack must contain a few vital essentials. The rest can be up to you whether you want to carry them or not.
Water for 24 to 48 hours, water filtration straw, knife, first aide kit, protein (tuna packs, peanuts, canned meats, protein bars, etc.). Carbs are also a must for energy like candy bars, energy bars, cookies, dried fruits, fruits, hard candy, gum, and soda. If you are traveling with pets; they need extra foods and treats too.

Backpacking Survival Part 1

I always have my dogs follow me when I go for a walk. My tomcat usually walks with us too. I will be making a few backpacking trips in
November and December. My dog Kincade who is the leader of my dogs and my little dog Maggie will be right along my side. (I keep dog and cat day packs in my emergency bags.) We will only do a maximum of 3 miles the first time to train them to walk with me in an emergency situation. Kincade is a very intelligent and highly trained for my protection. Maggie is a small dog and doesn't mind well but will accompany me on at least one trip before the end of this year.
A day pack shouldn't weigh over 45 pounds. You only need to pack what you will need for 24 to 48 hours.
My first practice backpacking will only be a 3 mile hike to see how well my dogs will do. The rest of them will be 5 miles or longer. Most backpackers will walk a minimum of 10 miles in one day. I have a lot of practicing to do before I can do that on a regular basis.
I will be organizing a 3 mile backpacking trip in the early part of December. Will have the day, time, and location posted on here by Wednesday of next week. Hope a few of you will be able to make it.

November 7, 2013

My Carey laid to rest her husband JT to rest yesterday.  I am so worried about her.  She is not doing well right now.

Went to my friend Lorie Jones wedding shower last night.  Had a great time.  I hope to see them over the weekend too.

Not going to do much this weekend.  Sarah's birthday was Tuesday.  I mailed her a card with some money in it.  She was happy.  I might wait and go next weekend for Leos birthday.  I had a small paycheck this week and it will be short next week too.  I already bought my brother his gift.

November 2,2013

Beautiful Saturday morning.  I slept till 7:30 am which is unusual for me.  I woke up in the middle of the night and watched tv on my laptop.  I may go on and send my dish network box back .  It costs to much and I am not home enough to get my monies worth.

Not doing anything this weekend.  I am going to save my money and go next weekend for Sarah's birthday.  Gas is a little cheaper but I need to save money.
