Hello all,

It's been a while since I blogged. Been busy and changed phones. 

This was this evenings post on my prepping groups that I post in from time to time.

What's the big deal about families wanting to live off grid? Our state, local, and federal government always want to be in total control.

Mississippi may be hit with a possible  ice storm Sunday night.  I am well stocked on propane,  lamp oil, water, food, batteries,  flash lights, milk,  bread, and alternative ways to cook food and warm my house.  People who are not prepared will be in a lot of trouble if this lasts more than a couple of days.  If you need some of the items that I mentioned and don't have them; go out now and get them before its to late.  Are you prepared?

Why I Prep

I have a lot of people ask me why I am always working when I should be enjoying life. It's hard to explain to someone who does well or one who is ok just getting by that it takes a little extra to make it. This is my story of why I work so hard.

Four years ago; I was riding my 4 wheeler and rode right into a swarm of nats. They got in my eyes and I could not see. My dog Kincade saw what happened and led me to the house by me holding on to her collar. I managed to get the contacts out of my eyes but my eyes had closed shut and my face was swollen.

I got up the next morning and drove to work by driving with one hand and the other hand holding an eye open. I got to work and I was told I need to go to the doctor. I didn't have insurance, no money, and the eye doctor I called wanted $200.00 up front. I was already struggling so I didn't have the money to go to the doctor and was ashamed to ask family and friends. 

My friend and co-worker Courtney called his wife who worked for an eye doctor in Memphis to see if her boss could help me. He took several pictures of my face and told his wife what happened. The eye doctor she worked for gave me the medicine I needed because if I had waited; I could've gone blind.

I now refuse to rely on one income because one income only gets you by and not ahead. I started looking for ways to make to make money on the side. My friend Debra told me about a family that needed a babysitter at night twice a month. (She even offered what she could so I could go to the doctor but I couldn't take her money.) I got the job & started babysitting then I started doing computer work at home, help people set up business plans, dog & cat sitting, selling on eBay, trading for stuff, buying from yard sales, reselling, and I even babysat a pet snake for two weeks.

I use my side money to pay for things in advance, buy extra food, water, medicine, and house hold items. 

I have been driving the same truck for 10 years but I don't care because it's paid for and so is my Volvo. It's a whole lot easier to make choices when your debt free. 

I don't have a lot of material things but I am happy knowing that what I do have is paid for and I am not at risk of being broken into because not even a robber would want 10 year, outdated stuff. I don't dress fancy and my socks never match my clothes. I became a simple woman with a willingness to survive and make it in this world.

If you know of someone struggling; please don't put them down or suggest ideas that was intended to insult them. If you can't help a person; don't try to hurt them. 

Just remember one thing about this post and it will change the way you think. A woman  who is debt free with no commitments, no ties, stock pile of necessities, a few dollars in the bank, etc is powerful because all she needs is God by her side, supportive family, and her willingness to be self sufficient. Nothing else matters.

Today, I met a man without a home. All he had was an old mountain bike with everything he owned tied to his bike. I went home and grabbed what I could for him and carried it to him. Another car had stopped to help too. The mans tire was bent from all the weight and all he could do was walk his bike. He thanked me and never asked me for a thing. Be thankful for what you do have because one day you could end up like him. 

Our country is the land of plenty. No human should be homeless, jobless, or hungry in the USA. People immigrate here from all over the world to have freedom to work, worship, and live a prosperous life. We need to help teach the ones who are struggling to be self sufficient and be able to take care of themselves. Life is not easy but if you are doing well; please share your knowledge with others to help them along. That's why I love all these groups because we are all here for the same reason and that's to learn more or teach others.

I hope that I will be able to leave my job in 2016, buy a used RV, and travel to churches and organizations & talk about prepping, self reliance, and what to do when Mother Nature throws something big at us. I am going to tie it into a Christian ministry through the Methodist Church. I may not be able to live very well cooped up in a small RV but if I could get people to listen; it will be all worth it. I can make it on love offerings, donations, and plenty of prayers. I have a few places lined up in 2015 to speak already. My life's work is not its high point right now. I want to make a difference in people's lives. What do you think?

I teach basic survival and emergency preparedness to my family, friends, and anybody who will listen. I don't have any family in the county I live in and can't afford to move right now where my brother and his family live. It's hard prepping by myself because my neighbors will see me as an easy target if something were to happen. I live in Mississippi and where I live; we have a lot of robberies, looting, murders, rapes, mugging, armed robbery, etc. The holidays are really bad with the break ins because people are so desperate. I have to keep my big mean dog inside all day long while I work so all my stuff will still be there when I get home. (I think I just talked myself into moving where my family lives.). Any of you feel alone when you are prepping?

We all need to take extra precautions this Christmas season. People prey on shoppers because they have extra money on them and are to busy buying things and not paying attention. Please carry some sort of small weapon when you are shopping. I recommend a medium sized knife. Keep it in your pocket so you can have better access to it. They won't be expecting it and it may save your life.

I ran out of milk over the weekend and needed some to make cornbread. I live out in the country and didn't want to drive somewhere to get some milk so I got my powdered milk out of my survival pantry. I couldn't stir it fast enough to get the clumps out of it so I put enough for 1 quart of milk in my blender. I blended it for 30 seconds and got a spoon and mixed the fat that rose to the top. I put it on for another 30 seconds and it was perfect. I made a delicious pan of cornbread with my powdered milk. I had some left and I just finished up a glass full. It was great. I am going to be weighing in the price comparison of buying milk at the store or buying the powdered kind in the #10 can. Augason Farms products are awesome.

Do you think you could live out in the woods, isolated like Mick Dodge? I don't think I could unless I had a big cabin stocked and all the comforts of home.

The temps are finally getting in the 30's. It was cold last night and going to be colder tonight. My pilot light isn't lite yet but I will get it figured out soon. 

Didn't have but 3 trick or treaters last night.  I will still continue to buy candy for the kids.  I am all about the kids.

I live a very frugal life. I shop wisely and use coupons, cook most of my meals at home, store water, use candles for lights most of the time, and make my own carbonated drinks. I have two older vehicles that are paid for that I keep running. All my furniture doesn't match and it was either given to me or I bought it used. I rent a decent home in a small town and I just got cable after being without tv for a year. I don't have any complaints and I am very happy. I don't understand how people can live now days if they have bills. There is no way I could buy a home, new car, and have nice matching furniture with what I make. I work a full time job, babysit on the side, and work from home. I work like that because I have too.

What ticks me off more than anything is seeing lazy people sitting under a tree drinking beer when they should be working. Lazy people in Mississippi!!!

I watched a show on TLC called Home Sweet Bus last night. It's about a family of 17 that live full time in a 45 foot touring bus. (They are a family of Christian musicians from Mississippi) One of my goals is to buy a bus or camper and actually live in it. I changed my mind about one last year because of the problem I have with my cats & dogs. Don't think I could handle it with 17 people. I would go crazy. Ha

I am going to start cooking some crockpot meals this fall and start freezing what I don't eat. I can carry one of the packages to work for a great lunch. I don't have a lot of time to do it during the week but I can do it on the weekends. I can even cook some meals while I am at work. I love to can but don't have a lot of time. I will do some canning in the spring and summer.

Preppers Questions

What do you have planned for some form of entertainment if you and your family have to leave your home for a few weeks? I have some playing cards, card games, a ball for tossing, hardback books, magazines, and crossword puzzles. You have to keep busy and so does your family so you won't go nuts. 

What kind or vegetables can you still grow in the fall in your part of the country?  

Halloween 2014

What are you going to do with all your left over Halloween candy? I am freezing mine in a large freezer bag. I can take what I want out of it and it will last me a long time. Tomorrow the stores will have all kinds of Halloween stuff on sale like plastic cups, hand soap, candy, pumpkins, and baking goods. 

I only had three kids tonight.  I am happy I had that many.  It's a whole lot better than none at all.  The cats and dogs enjoyed it.

I learned a lot about my mommas family Sunday from my cousin Margie.  I now wish I didn’t know.  People back then did a lot of crazy things because they were uneducated and lived differently than they do now.  It made me no longer want to find out any more about them because it hurts so bad. I hate that my sweet momma had to live through such a bad time in her life.  If it wasn’t for my daddy rescuing her from her family then she would’ve been dead.  Thank God me and my brother turned out so well.  I will never be ashamed of my family but I sure don’t want my nieces and nephew to know how their grandmother was treated.  I don’t want them to have to think about it like me and my brother did.  All I know is I don’t want to be like them.

This month is turning out to be good. I am getting a good bit of overtime at work, the weather is finally cooling off, and my  house actually looks good.  I always do better when the temperature starts falling and I get to start enjoying my life.

 

I am going to go to my brothers next Sunday. I haven’t been since Labor Day weekend. I don’t get to go as much as I like to because its been so hot and gas is so high.  I want to buy some things at the flea market coming up the last weekend in this month so I am going to go back to see what all I can find.  I enjoy going when I can. 

 

I am going to do a geo cache tomorrow before I go to church. Its always so much fun. I am only going to do one or two of them if I can find them without any trouble.  I am going to Dollar Tree to find some small prizes to put back. I noticed that people take the prizes and don’t put another trinket back in its place. I am going to try to go back and put some prizes in the caches so it can all start over.  I am going to only going to do one a month but open to do more if I have the time and opportunity.  I have so many hobbies when it gets cooler. I am also going to start doing “Scenes from the Levee” starting this month. I make pictures from the levee for all 4 seasons. I didn’t do any this year but will do some this month and through the remainder of this year.  It’s a lot of fun too.

 

Not sure when my prepper group will meet in October.  I am booked solid every weekend so I have to be careful how I plan things.  I may do a meeting over Zello for October since my weekends are spread so thin.   Friday nights are always fun at the lodge.  I don’t want to plan a meeting and I have to babysit or work late.  That always causes problems. 

 

I worked again today at Saf T Cart and I will babysit this evening. I am lucky to be able to get all this work.  There are so many without work right now but here I am working all I want. I am blessed to have a job and grateful for the overtime and extra pay I receive.  If I can just start saving a little; I would do well. Its just hard when there are so many things I need and the only want to get them is to work hard and save so I can pay cash.

Prepping 101 August 15, 2014

I am working hard these past few months trying to earn extra money to buy extra supplies and food. I want to stock up on canned foods, candles, water, bread, and toilet paper. That's all I seem to do is work hard and prep. One day it will pay off.

Start buying books when you see them on the shelves. You can get new, hardback books at places like Dollar Tree or the local libraries. Our way of life is changing at a fast pace. I love books so I am going to stock up because the kindle will only work a very short time when the grid goes down.
